Recent project completed to provide new source of heating and hot water.
This was a tricky project as the existing system was all electric and with current energy prices, we needed to find a cost-effective solution.
The first issue we had was that the magnificent building is listed and has no gas, lpg or oil option so we were unable to change the fabric of the external facade of the building.
The existing wet electric heating system was made up of two electric boilers, an 11kw and 6kw TRIANCO boilers with a 330-litre unvented hot water storage cylinder. The 3-port valve had failed as well as three of the 7 immersion heaters within the boilers.
Heat loss within the property was 11.5kw so we opted for a new 12kw EHC Slim Jim boiler to serve the heating only with new smart controls installed.
The hot water was replaced with a new 200l SAHP and internally installed thermal panel to provide hot water at 55° using thermal energy only.
The SAHP was up to its pre-set temperature of 55° within 4 hours of first turning it on and shut its self-off until the following morning where both owners showered. Remarkably the unit was back up to full temp within 2 hours. The following morning with 2 guests staying, recovery time was within 4 hours.
The SAHP has performed excellently in the last week with literally no running costs.
The SAHP would benefit almost any situation and recovery times would only get better if the thermal panel was able to be installed externally.
We have two very delighted customers with lower energy bills and ample hot water at mains pressure available.
